On today’s to-do list: love the body you are in.
I remember watching a Korean movie called “Sunny” where the announcements for their school is being managed by a student who plays random music and reminds students of random things early in the morning and during lunch. She’ll tell the students to not forget their water because heat is hell for the day then plays an old folk Korean song.
Just pretend I’m that student announcer only the world is our school and whatever song you’re hearing is what I’m playing. Set your alarm to:
As you rush out your gate to grab something to drink before heading to work or school or just anywhere, remind yourself of the beauty this world has and how much of it you carry in your own body. I’ve believed the stars and the moons, at some point in the year, align on their own to help me feel good about myself.
Smiling at strangers may feel weird at first but as you feel the sun glowing with the beam you shoot at these kind souls, you’ll realize how effortless it actually is. Grab the chance to touch the lives of others, no matter how little you feel these acts are. It is in these the small chances and efforts where the world starts to gradually change for the better.
Our darkest demons aren’t night owls. They roam around our room, making their way to our skin as we change clothes and dine with us for breakfast. They walk with us as we cross the street and sometimes we don’t see them but others do. Do not shrug them away but instead make peace with them. They’re a part of you for a reason. Ask them how they’re feeling just like how you would with your best friend.
You’ve always been worthy of the things you thought you weren’t. Those dreams are not ridiculous. Remind yourself you’re doing what you’re doing right now because you’ll be reaching for the stars very soon. Let the negative people around you laugh their asses off, they should never matter nor should their opinions about you.
Maybe you counted last night the many scars you have around your body. Sometimes you proudly show them to the world, most of the time you cover them with clothes. When you let them breathe fresh air, it is when you’ve come to accept them as a part of you when others realize they aren’t ugly or bad. Remind yourself that whether you choose to dab some concealer on it or not, they will still be there but they don’t define you.
Someone you dearly loved figuratively died last night and you thought you will never be able to go on living. Remember how the trees are always there, letting you take on as much oxygen as you need. Look at your pet or loved ones you live with and how they see you as someone they need. You were never alone. Tie your hair up today and believe you are independent. Fight to survive today if you have to, but never give up. Losing someone is tough so imagine losing yourself for good.
Pour all your frustrations on a piece of paper. Let your veins bleed of the bottled up feelings you have. It is never a good thing to harm oneself but find another outlet. Maybe you didn’t do well on the last task assigned to you, maybe you didn’t pass a major subject’s test, but remind yourself that failures are ways of the Earth to remind you how balanced it is.
Inhale all the love you can. Exhale the stress and negativity, as my yoga teacher would tell me before ending a session.
